DESCRIPTION
Château de Valcombe, family owned since 1749, is the southernmost estate in the Costières de Nîmes. Close to the Mediterranean Sea and planted on soils boasting the highest concentration of limestone in the region, the wines of Château de Valcombe are refined, concentrated and display exuberant freshness.
Following the Second World War, the estate was inherited by Charles Ricome, who replanted most of the vineyards and was among the first to plant Syrah in the appellation.
In 2007, Château de Valcombe was invited by the former French President, Jacques Chirac, to supply wine to the Élysée Palace. This is the first time that a Southern France winery has received such an honor. It shows that Château de Valcombe has been recognized in France.
TASTING NOTE
The cuvée Tradition from this large estate is made out of Syrah (70%) and Grenache (30%). It shows the colour of a nice young wine. On the nose, delicate yet powerful aromas, black fruit and spices mainly, with a touch of mineral. On the mouth, the wine is dense, rich; the tannins leave a feeling of softness, balanced by a real freshness. Power, full body and length are the key words.
