Gapsted Ballerina Canopy Shiraz 2016
|REGION||King Valley, Australia|
Gapsted Wines is the major brand of the Victorian Alps Winery, which started life (and continues) as a large-scale contract winemaking facility. The quality of the wines made for its own brand has led to the expansion of production not only under that label, but also under a raft of subsidiary labels. As well as the substantial estate plantings, Gapsted sources traditional and alternative grape varieties from the King and Alpine Valleys.
This wine shows the typical deep red garnet hues of youth. The nose displays distinctive and intense plum and dark cherry aromas, interwoven with hints of white pepper. These aromas follow through to a rich and concentrated palate of plummy fruit flavours. The wine was matured for 18 months in American oak barrels, and has the tannin and fruit structure to age gracefully in bottle for up to eight years from vintage.
